Tottenham needs to keep Toby Alderweireld

According to and various other media outlets, Tottenham are prepared to allow Belgian centre-back Toby Alderweireld leave the club this summer. The main reason for the decision is the fact that talks over a new contract have stalled.

The centre-back is believed to be looking for around £150,000 per week. Meanwhile, Spurs are only willing to give him £110,000 per week, which was reportedly their final offer and the Belgian international turned down the offer.

Tottenham’s wage structure a barrier

Reportedly, Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has backed the clubs stance. However, there is only so long Spurs can challenge for a top-four place by paying in comparison poor wages compared to their rivals.

There will come a point when the players at Spurs …

Bayern Munich 2-1 Mainz: Musiala brings up Nagelsmann´s 100th Bundesliga victory

Julian Nagelsmann won his 100th Bundesliga game as Jamal Musiala s strike completed a 2-1 comeback victory over Mainz.

Perhaps suffering a hangover from their Champions League win over Barcelona, Bayern – without a number of key players – were far from their slick best on Saturday.

But the champions ultimately had too much quality, with Musiala, playing in an unfamiliar central midfield role, slotting in a 74th-minute winner.

Kingsley Coman had equalised to cancel out Karim Onisiwo s header, with Mainz unable to withstand the pressure as Nagelsmann moved onto a century of league wins in his 199th top-flight game as a coach.

Many feel that Jack Grealish isn t scoring or assisting enough for Manchester City to justify the £100 million the Premier League champions spent on his services in the summer.

However, manager Pep Guardiola has a different view.

He doesn t have to score, what he has to do is play on the field.

South Korea furious over Bento dismissal and ´lack of fairness´ as Addo salutes Kudus

South Korea were left bemoaning a lack of fairness after head coach Paulo Bento was sent off at the end of their 3-2 defeat to Ghana due to a furious reaction to his side not being allowed to take a late corner.

During a thrilling contest at Education City Stadium, Ghana found themselves 3-2 up after Mohammed Kudus second goal of the game halted South Korea s momentum.

The Taeguk Warriors, who had previously fought back from 2-0 down thanks to a Cho Gue-sung brace, piled the pressure on at the end and got themselves a corner.

But referee Anthony Taylor blew for full-time before they could take the set-piece, sparking a frustrated reaction from Bento, whose side were left bottom of Group H with one point heading into their final game.

Courtois and Hazard dismiss ´lies´ amid Belgium rift rumours

Thibaut Courtois insists too many lies are spread as the Belgium goalkeeper dismissed reports of a rift in the Red Devils camp.

The 2022 World Cup is regarded as the last shot at glory for Belgium s Golden Generation , who must avoid defeat against Croatia to stand any chance of reaching the last 16.

Following their shock 2-0 defeat to Morocco, Jan Vertonghen appeared to take a swipe at Kevin De Bruyne, who suggested the ageing Red Devils were too old to launch a genuine challenge in Qatar.

Meanwhile, Eden Hazard stated his belief Roberto Martinez s side had greater chances of glory in Russia four years ago, when they were narrowly beaten 1-0 by France in the semi-finals.

I guess we attack badly because we are also too old up front, Vertonghen told repor…

Tymoshchuk hints at Bayern exit

Ukrainian midfielder Anatoliy Tymoshchuk has hinted he could leave Bayern Munich in the January transfer window.

The Bundesliga leaders have insisted they will not sell any first-team players, but Tymoshchuk said he could be on the move.

I do not know yet whether I will still be at Bayern come February, the holding midfielder told Kicker.

The 33-year-old joined Bayern from Zenit St Petersburg in 2009 and has since made over 100 official appearances for the Bundesliga giants.

However, Tymoshchuk has been struggling to get regular first-team action this term, and could therefore opt to leave the club.

The midfielder s contract with Bayern runs until June 2013.

Scolari, Brazil missing home comforts

Luiz Filipe Scolari says he would rather Brazil play warm-up matches at home as they prepare for yet another promotional friendly.

Brazil meet Russia at Stamford Bridge on Monday, with west London their latest stop on the long road to the FIFA World Cup finals on home soil next year.

Scolari, brought in for his second spell in charge following the sacking of Mano Menezes in November, believes the team are gradually improving under his leadership.

But the man who led Brazil to glory in the 2002 World Cup has expressed his regret over the decision to sell the first-team s rights to playing friendlies in their South American home, with higher profit margins generated by taking their brand on the road.

The pressure is not less or higher in Brazil, Scolari s…

Kroos: Real Madrid have no magic recipe for success

Toni Kroos has warned that Real Madrid have no magic recipe for success and expects Saturday s Champions League final against Juventus to be a tight affair.

The Santiago Bernabeu side have made the final in three of the past four seasons, beating Atletico Madrid to claim glory in 2013-14 and 2015-16.

They can become the first team to successfully defend their title when they meet Juve in Cardiff, but Kroos knows a tough game awaits Zinedine Zidane s men.

There is no magic recipe to win this title, said the German.

You need a great team and to give the maximum in important matches.

It is amazing to win the league, but the Champions League is always special to me. I hope we win two in a row, but we do not need that motivation. We are ready fo…

There was a lot of room to beat them – Wenger rues missed Chelsea chance

Going down to 10 men and failing to finally beat Chelsea in the Premier League left Arsenal with a lot of regrets , according to Arsene Wenger, who defended his decision to withdraw Olivier Giroud.

The Gunners have not beaten their rivals from west London in the league since October 2011.

With Arsenal challenging for the title and champions Chelsea, having sacked Wenger s nemesis Jose Mourinho in December, languishing in the wrong half of the table, the match at Emirates Stadium on Sunday was viewed as a perfect opportunity for the hosts to end that sequence.

A red card shown to centre-back Per Mertesacker after just 18 minutes dealt a serious blow to Arsenal s hopes and they proved unable to find a way back after Diego Costa struck the only goal of the game fo…
